The book for sale is a rare signed, limited edition of Arthur Rackham's illustrated masterpiece of William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. The book is illustrated with 21 tipped-in color plates, including the colored frontispiece. The book was published by William Heinemann and Doubleday, Page & Co. In 1926 as a limited edition of only 520 signed copies. This is copy 442 and signed by Rackham on the book's colophon page. The book is bound in vellum and features gilt decorations to the front cover and spine, see photos. The book is in near fine condition mild toning, fixing and wear to the vellum boards and minor toning to the interior end papers, see photos.

The spine and boards are tight and straight. There are no internal markings, other than Rackham's signature.

There is no previous owner's bookplate. The sale also includes a contemporary clamshell case. The case is in very good condition with mild shelf wear and foxing to the top, see photos. The interior of the case is in fine condition. This is a beautiful copy of this extraordinary production.
